The 2009 Leith Festival will take place from Friday 5th June to Sunday 14th June 2009.

The 2009 Leith Festival Gala Day and Parade will take place on Leith Links on Saturday 13th June.

About the Leith Festival and how to get involved:

We are a professionally led, voluntary organisation producing a high quality annual Community Arts & Music Festival to be held 05-14 June 2009. The Festival showcases drama, visual arts, sport, live music,comedy, literature,film, walks & local history with over 150 events over the 10 day period, culminating in the Gala Day and Pageant. We are a non-profit registered charity and require financial support to enable us to include innovative new works at a low cost to our service users. We use local venues and our line up is made of mainly local performers/artists. We also have internship placements for students or local people who are interested in gaining skills/experience within this sector.

Over the last 7 years we have built up a consortium of local businesses, charities and voluntary agencies, local government and arts organisations along with the people of Leith to produce a 10 day Community Arts Festival. We staff and manage the Festival with local volunteers and students interns. We primarily work with local singers, bands, actors, playwrights and directors to produce a community led arts Festival. The Festival comprises over 150 free and or low cost events in 50 venues all within a one mile radius of the heart of Leith. In 2008 we had approximately 25,000 visitors to the Festival, from across Scotland and beyond. "

We are a constituted membership organisation, open to anyone and hold open meetings and invite members to join sub-groups to help manage the activities of the Festival. Applications to participate in the Festival are open to everyone and we actively encourage local acts to take part by providing support, advice, office resources, marketing and where possible funding.
